Zendaya Reportedly Doesn’t Want MJ to Return for a “Cameo” Role in ‘Spider-Man 4’

After months of silence, we finally got the first information about ‘Spider-Man 4.’ Jon Watts stepped down as director, and Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton was appointed. Fans quickly jumped on that train, considering how awesome the fight scenes from ‘Shang-Chi’ were.

The movie is expected to start filming in early 2025. Tom Holland and Zendaya have allegedly not yet signed the deal for a return, and some early rumors suggest Zendaya is hesitant to do so.

At the end of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ Doctor Strange’s spell works, and everyone forgets about Spider-Man, even Zendaya’s MJ. Peter has a chance to talk to MJ again, but decides not to, thinking his friends’ lives will be easier without him.

Zendaya could still get a bigger role if the writers want, but it wouldn’t make much sense if her character doesn’t remember Peter. Saying that, indusutry insider Alex Perez recently said that Zendaya won’t be up for that – a cameo role:

Michael: Following changes to SM4’s story, will MJ’s role in SM4 be significant or just an extended cameo? It would be a dumb move to bench a big actress like Zendaya.

Alex: Zendaya will not sign up for a cameo appearance, I’ll tell you that.

Although a rumor, this actually makes a lot of sense, as Zendaya is definitely an A-lister in Hollywood right now. She has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for her role as Rue Bennett in ‘Euphoria.’ She starred in ‘Dune’ movies and ‘Challengers’ as well. At this moment, it’s probably a supporting character or nothing at all.

After Deadline announced that ‘Spider-Man 4’ has a new director, some fans quickly stated that they simply do not want MJ back, for now. There were a variety of reasons for that.

Some fans simply loved how ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ ended and want some time for Peter to “rebuild himself”; some think it’s simply the time to move on. The majority of fans also agree that bringing MJ back so quickly will “water down” the consequences of ‘No Way Home’:

But, the most “likes” on the comment went to one fan who simply left a Black Cat gif in the comments, pointing out that he would rather see Black Cat (possibly Sydney Sweeney in the role, as she is the #1 rumor so far) as Peter’s new love interest:
